Who we are
SurgerySkills.com and the Surgeryskills courses are owned by ISCN Health ltd ("ISCN Health", "us", "our", "we"), a limited company registered in England and Wales, reg no 6704737. Our registered address is 15.Market Street, Standish, Lancashire, WN6 0HW.
ISCN Health regards your privacy seriously, and we have designed this Privacy Notice to help you understand what we do with your information and why. If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact us at '[email protected]'. By accessing SurgerySkills.com and our courses, you are accepting the notice as described below. Please notice that these terms may change from time to time.
ISCN Health as a data controller and/or data processor
In providing services, ISCN Health ltd may act as a data controller and/or data processor on behalf of certain third parties (eg learning platforms, medical specialists, hospitals, medical schools, businesses and advertisers) who will themselves be data controllers and/or processors. When acting as a data controller, ISCN Health will comply with this policy. When acting as a processor, ISCN Health will be required to act on the instructions of the data controller (and the data controller's privacy policy will apply).
1. What data do we collect?
We may store, collect and use:
- Information that you provide to us for the purpose of subscribing to our courses, newsletters, e-mail notifications or website services.
- Information that you provide to us for purposes of passing on to trainers.
- Information you pass to us in relation to any purchases you make of our goods or services including courses or advertising.
- Information you pass to us in relation to contributing any material such as text, images or illustrations to our courses or website.
- Information you may pass to us in any correspondence.
- Any other information you may choose to send us.
- Information freely available in the public domain (for example by searching on the internet via Google.com).
- We may send a cookie to your computer to be stored on your hard drive. The information gained from these cookies is used in the administration of our services and website, to improve the usability of the website, and for marketing purposes (such as letting us know how many times an advert has been seen or clicked on). Most browsers will let you refuse cookies, although this may affect the usability of certain areas of the course or website.
- Information passed to us by third parties that is relevant to any services that we may provide to you.
We also use a third party service (Google Analytics) to collect standard internet information and visitor behaviour patterns. This information is only used to track visitor use of our website and provide statistical reports; it does not personally identify you by name.
2. Where do we collect personal data from?
We may collect data from you or your business when you email us, talk to us on the phone or in person, or contact us for any reason.
We may also work closely with third parties, including for example thinkific.com, Stripe.com, medical clinicians and providers, hospitals, clinics, billing processors, other businesses, and may collect information about you from these sources for purposes of research or financial purposes.
Thinkific.com is a platform that we use to host our courses, and holds your information that can be accessed and downloaded by us. This includes your name, email address, method of payment and any discount codes you used when paying. Through these codes we may be able to ascertain which medical school or institution you attend. We are also able to look at when you signed up and your course completion rate. We only use the information held by Thinkific.com to contact you or for purposes of research for our course, for example understanding why some parts of the course may be more interesting to students than others. Stripe.com is a payment processor that we use when you purchase our courses. Information that we can access through Stripe.com includes your name, email and method of payment. We are unable to see your full payment details and we do not download or store any information held by Stripe.com about you. You should read Stripe.com’s privacy policy for an understanding of how they handle your data, which can be found at stripe.com/gb/privacy
3. How do we use your personal data?
We may use your personal data in the following ways:
- To process information you have submitted to us
- To provide you with services and/or products and information
- To let our advertisers know how many people are viewing their adverts, how many visits we get to our courses and website, and geographical location of our visitors. This data sharing will not identify you by name.
- Personally identifiable information is shared with third parties, such as when you have requested contact from a trainer, or when you submit coursework for checking by a trainer.
- For financial processing. We will use your personal information for account keeping and the processing of finances, including requesting payment. We may also receive further information from these third parties for the purposes of payment processing.
- To help us review, develop and improve our services
- To disclose personally identifiable information as required by law or to protect our rights or comply with required processes
If ISCN Health Ltd or any of its websites are merged with, or acquired by, another company then all held information will likely be shared or transferred. This includes personally identifiable information.
4. Retention periods
We will keep your data for as long as necessary under applicable law, including any accounting or reporting requirements. Your data, such as email address, will also be retained and accessible by us on the Thinkific.com platform for purposes of newsletters or email contact, until the information is found to be outdated or you request data removal.
5. Other individuals, companies or websites
When providing information to any websites, companies or individuals that have been accessed through ISCN Health or any of its courses or websites, we have no control on how your data will be processed or used. If you follow links from any of our sites, or have contact with any other providers or individuals during the course of your business with us, then we strongly urge you to check their Privacy policy before giving your data and information.
6. Security
Whilst we strive to keep your information secure, transmission of data over the internet and subsequent storage can never be considered 100% secure, and any data transmission is at your own risk. For this reason we ask that you:
- Do not send or discuss any sensitive financial information to us, such as credit card numbers, unless if we specifically ask you to do so.
- Do not send sensitive medical information to us.
We use strict procedures to keep your data safe, including using servers from within the EEA (European Economic Area). Your data may, however, be transferred to areas outside the EEA, such as in the transmission of email correspondence or through the processing of your data by third parties; the laws within these countries may not provide the same protection as in the EEA.
7. Your rights
Once your data has been shared with third parties we have no control over how this data is held or used by them. You will need to contact these third parties individually if you also wish to have them copy, transfer, amend, delete or remove your information.
With respect to the information held by us:
Copy/transfer of your information: you may request us to transfer a copy of the personal information we hold on you, either to yourself or a third party, by emailing us at the email address provided above. We will provide this data in a reasonable timeframe, usually 1 month. This information will be emailed to the destination of your request. We have no control on how your data will be processed or used by your email provider or third parties, and we strongly urge you to check their Privacy policy before giving your data and information.
Let us know if your information is incorrect: If you feel that the information we hold on you is incorrect, please email us at the email address provided above and in our Contact section. We may need to verify this with you first, and will aim to update our records within a reasonable timeframe, usually 1 month.
Stopping your information being used: If you wish to have your information deleted or removed, please email us at the email address provided above. We may need to verify this with you first, and will aim to update our records within a reasonable timeframe, usually 1 month. We may not always be able to comply with your request, due to for example legal or accounting reasons, and if so we will notify you of this at the time of request.
Unsubscribing from our mailing list: we will contact you from time to time on your submitted email address to inform you of your course progress, updates, or any issues as required by law or protocols. These emails may also include offers on our courses or information from advertisers and sponsors. To unsubscribe from the mailing list, please email us at '[email protected]' to inform us of this. We will aim to unsubscribe you within 1 month of your email, but if this does not occur within this timescale we apologise.
